Attention:  Human Trafficking is happening in Kentucky!

Since the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has launched a Human Trafficking awareness and rescue program in 2007, 30 cases of human trafficking (for both sex and labor) have been investigated in KY and the victims are being rescued and restored to safety by means of several grants made available through the U.S Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

DHHS/USCCB understand that more cases would be identified if its occurrence was better understood, and if the agencies serving vulnerable populations knew the means by which the victims would be served, and restored to safety.

In June 2009, W.KY. Refugee Mutual Assistance, Inc., located in Bowling Green, KY has been awarded a subcontract from Rescue & Restore Victims of Human Trafficking to disseminate information and provide training to social service providers & agencies, health care & mental health service providers, law enforcement, and other agencies serving vulnerable foreign nationals and U.S. Citizens.

If you are interested to learn more about human trafficking and how it is affecting your community, or to arrange a training on Human Trafficking please contact Benedicte Bossut or Jennifer Van Buskirk , the Human Trafficking program coordinators at W.KY. Refugee Mutual Assistance, Inc. at (270) 781-8336 or email benedicte@wkrmaa.org.
