This is a true statement! "Strep pneumo", also known as "pneumococcus", is quite often found in the nose and throat of most healthy people. This germ can cause serious infections in the lungs or ears, but causes no ill effects at all when living in your nose or throat. A throat culture which is positive for strep pneumo is always considered to be normal, and should not be treated with antibiotics.
